Garden Update: Arapaho Blackberry

This gallery contains 6 photos.

So about a year ago I bought an Arapaho Blackberry bush. It was mostly an impulse buy at the Wal-Mart (I’m afraid to admit).  I planted it in a 5-gallon paint bucket (clean, only used for gardening as this is … Continue reading

Mold Be-gone, PLEASE

So, yesterday I said that my lettuce container had a layer of mold.  I further investigated my other plants’ containers (i.e. looked really hard and really close), and found some signs of the same mold in a few of them. … Continue reading

Garden Updates

Well, I think by being vigilant I got rid of the aphids on my spinach plants.  Harvested some leaves the other day, but they froze on the top-shelf in my fridge and turned to mush.  Just when my lettuce is … Continue reading

Aphids Update

Well I checked today (Friday afternoon) on my spinach before leaving town.  I only found two recognizable aphids on my heavily infested plant, and no apparent ones on the other plants. I do see what look like really tiny crystals … Continue reading

First Strawberry is Blushing

Finally, some color other than green in my garden! Started blushing 2 days ago, and this morning it had only a band around the middle, but by this afternoon the entire bottom was red.  I’m so excited to eat it. … Continue reading

Chadwick Cherry Tomato Seedlings, still sprouting!

Of course I want all my babies to grow and be successful, but I have no idea what to do with 47 of them! I did not expect this many seeds to actually germinate.  No doubt, there are probably still … Continue reading

My first seeds without any mold =]

Several years ago, when I first started to ‘garden’, I tried growing my plants from seeds. Everytime, at some point in the process, the soil would get moldy. I was so excited today to come home and see that my seeds have actually sprouted. I counted about 34 seedlings starting to poke out of the soil. But best of all, no mold in sight! Continue reading

Splitting Plants – Baby Aloe Has Babies

So, I have had an ‘aloe’ plant since 2008.  I assume it is a variety of aloe, I just have no idea what.  It is quite peculiar in its growth – 2 opposite leaves in a flat, planar fashion, instead … Continue reading
